An unusual member of the family

A FAMILY of six have welcomed a tiny tenant into their home - a six-week-old Shetland pony called Hope.
Paula Harkin, said she was heartbroken when she heard the tiny foal was rejected by her mother and given a 20 percent chance of survival.
The Harkin family took the mini-Shetland into their home in Gloucester England where she lives on a bed of hay in the garage.
Seeing Mrs Harkin and her husband Simon walk with Labrador Scooby on one lead and pony Hope on another has now become a familiar sight in their neighbourhood.
And their four children have all taken to the horse, which sits on their laps as they watch television in the lounge.
Mrs Harkin said Hope’s mother Tinkerbelle, who is stabled nearby, delivered her in a surprise birth and did not take to her.
Mrs Harkin said: “My brother asked if I would take care of Hope’s mother Tinkerbelle, without realising she was in foal.
“When she was born she seemed to be quite poorly. We left her with her mother, but she rejected her.
“We were told she only had a 20 per cent survival rate so we took her into our home.”
Mrs Harkin said Hope occasionally comes into the house but spends most of her time in the garage.
“The family have really taken to her, we have to feed her every two hours, so we all have to help out”
