Live TV Free Life

Live TV Free Life

Just Say "Live Online Free on TV" and it sets the pulse racing. The mind has become so programmed from watching TV shows, programs, live reality or sports events that a life devoid of TV does not seem plausible anymore. Living a TV Free Life seems unreal.

In this era of digital blitzkrieg of thousands to TV channels the pace of life seems to be dictated by TV schedules. Meetings, social events and even family gatherings are planned keeping TV schedules in hind sight.

There is this recent trend among Indian housewives swearing by their favorite list of soap operas. It is well know by now that few would dare upset their TV tele-serial schedule. Add the availability of broadband Internet to this concoction and the picture becomes clear(hazy in fact :-)

Compared to the entertainment avenues that our fore bearers had we are clearly spoilt for choices. Moreover we hardly think of much while "gifting" our teenage child with that latest cell phone or a gadget gizmo.

While all this is great news for entertainment industry that thrives on TRPs and sticky eyeballs, it is impacting us in ways not anticipated before. The biggest toll taken by TV is on the availability of quality time.

There seems none left. We are experts at doing everything while watching TV - Shaving, eating, conversing, cooking, reading, thinking & even sleeping. Does it surprise us to know that for some people TV assumes therapeutic value. They cannot get things done unless the idiot box is blaring.

All this has taken its toll. There is a price to pay. The problems with TV viewing is much more than time alone. Obesity, decline of the family values, rampant consumerism, nagging children, increased tolerance to violent crime scenes, desentisation due constant exposure to present TV content, easily frayed temper, loss of communication are among the top consequences.

When did we last play with kids or post a handwritten letter? When did we watch the sun set or bird building a nest?

Watching television takes up a huge percentage of our time. Even if it is 2 hours a day it adds up to nearly 14 hours per week - about a half a day job hours.

Lets us see what is possible if you stopped watching TV or may be regulated it. You will first and foremost unlock a lot of free time. Not only could it be more enriching and rewarding it can be lead to one or more of positive effects from the available free time:

  • More Meaningful Communication & Enriched Relationships
TV is a drag on communication between family members. You have time to connect with your friends more deeply. Meaningful communication leads to more healthy social interaction and enriched relationships with friends and family members. You can take your wife or girlfriend out on a date or candle lite dinner.
  • Time for Hobbies & Skills
Hobbies are often the first casualty at the altar of TV. Free time gives you time for those great hobbies that you always kept on the back burner. Playing guitar, piano, philately, new crafts or even learning that Soulja dance steps. You burn more calories away from TV and there is a general feeling of well being.
  • Increased Power of Concentration
TV is a huge distraction, even from the next room. It’s so much easier to concentrate when you don’t have a TV snapping in the background (read foreground). Notice the ease with which you concentrate even on on routine matters when TV is mum.
  • Learn & Enjoy Doing Nothing
You wake up to life's simple and powerful pleasures that hitherto meant "Nothing" when TV ruled. Long stroll in the woods, meditations, reading a book, bird watching or watching sun rise. All the simple things in life take a new dimension altogether.
  • More Time on Xomba!
Well Xomba buffs would already have cut their TV time to be more here :-) Point is with time on hand you can churn out more quality articles on your favorite blog on Internet if you are into serious writing on the Internet .
  • Actually the list is endless. The benefits of regulated TV watching are far too many to list. We have to realise that ultimately Choice is Ours. If we decide that technologies can be selected carefully to enhance our lives, we can learn to live well with them purposefully and with awareness. This is true of many offerings that technology has presented.

So the mantra is Watch Your TV Time - Regulate it, Shrink it, Diminish it. Be Discreet. Do not let it control you. Watch it only out of Your Own Choice and not out of habit. You need to Drive than be Driven.

TV Free Life is not only possible, it is more enriching, vitalizing and empowering. Begin this New Year with this simple aim of empowering yourself.

@kukku--I Think of TV as 'Community Theater Distribution'

When I first started attending community theater, I did it to watch my friends, their friends and friends-of-friends-of-friends 'play make-believe' (or--as we grown-ups call it--'act' lol). That's pretty-much the same reason I watch TV now ... one of my favorite shows *is* "FRIENDS". I watch to see people I'm somehow familiar-with, their friends or characters they all play. Maybe it sounds pathetic, but it gives me some 'common ground' with others who watch the same programs I do; kinda like consistent conversation makes one more-understandable in general. ---Uncle MythMan of the Professional Friends who GET MONEY for Echoing the Universe (the Wonderful World Above & the Beauty Amidst)

    Choosing Xomba Over TV

For me Xomba is preferable over TV. Most of us watch TV out of rote habit. I did too. I was hooked on. Xomba rescued me :-) The TV contents and programs also are tailor made to suit audience taste (or distaste!). See the spate of reality TV on Indian Television? There seems to be poverty of ideas. When we get into compulsive watching it kills your time & mind numbs you. Dropping TV altogether from your schedule for some days itself proves beneficial. Thanks for your comments, sanjay. Give More Time to Comments (rather than Serial Blurbs for Money)

"More Posts, with- or without Quality" = "More Money" Why else would one ... oh, I don't know ... post blurbs for each individual match when you KNOW there's probably a list of matches out there you could just blurb once and be done? ---Uncle MythMan of the Professional Friends who GET MONEY for Echoing the Universe (the Wonderful World Above & the Beauty Amidst)
