I want to sit on my bum all day and write – could I earn cash for doing this?
If you want to sit on your bum all day and do nothing but write, let us straight away assure you, you are not alone. The only problem with this aim – unless you’re Dan Brown or the woman who wrote Harry Potter (her name escapes me) – is that it will make you little or no money…
Wrong! Actually, if you didn’t have to work and instead started sitting on your bum all day and writing, two years from now you could be earning $2-3000 a month from your efforts and the more days over that you spent sitting on your bum all day and writing the greater your monthly amount could be!
Unfortunately, most of us aren’t in a position in which we could abandon the day job and replace it with sitting on our bums and writing all day. But we could start sitting on our bums and writing all day some days and this could start earning us a little monthly income. Depending on how much we earn, we could then start sitting on our bums all day and writing for additional days. Whether you will be one of those depends on your talent but it costs nothing to start and test the market and you never know.
Ask yourself, could you write a trite, seemingly pointless article (like this one)? Could you write 200 words about your favorite deodorant? Could you write about your holiday? Could you write about an experience? A poem? A short story? A website review? Could you write about finances, Art, Crafts, Museums, Transport or why you hate any or all politicians? If you could – why not see what you could achieve if you were to sit down on your bum all day (in front of your computer) and write all day.

Yes, I wanna sit on my bum all day (most days) and write! The job market where I live is very slow and full of dead end jobs right now. I fantasize about earning enough through my writing to support myself. I love to be home writing, not at work all day in a cubicle, where I can't express myself creatively! I live in a tiny rural town, so if I earned a modest amount through my online writing, I could cover my expenses.
I think if a person really dedicated themselves to sitting on their bum, writing their heart out about a variety of topics, and worked very steadily, the money will start to flow in! It's happening for me. I'm looking for work and have lots of time to sit on my tush and write, and I'm pretty dedicated to working online right now. I work writing for a few sites and my earnings are slowly increasing. I'm having a great experience with Xomba, great earnings potential. Like you said, in a year or two, I could conceive of making 2,000 dollars a month, it's a possible goal.

I don't believe the homeless should be used as furniture!
However, having said this, I believe that being a home-based writer is one of the greatest gigs a person could ever have, second only to one's own children at home. In fact, that is one of my ambitions as a stay-at-home dad--write articles and blogs part-time, honing my skills, then do it full-time once my son starts preschool.

I really enjoy days like today. I finished writing something that should eventually involve a big fat fee and then decided to spend the day writing more online material. Looking back over my stats from Xomba and other publishing sites I reckon I've earned anything from $5-$50 dollars a month from the articles I've written today. For me, that means that today's effort will gross a minimum of $30 and a maximum of $600 over the next year - no more work involved. Cool or what? It took me two years to realise the potential of sites like Xomba but it's always reassuring to meet someone who has realised the same. Thanks for your comment and good luck with your work too.

Putting Children Through University C/O Xomba
I totally think you'll be able to do just that and wish you well with your plans. If only this revenue stream had been available to me when my child was younger - I'd be following your example now (apart from I'm a mom) and have my daughter's uni funds in place. So far I'm proven to myself that with a little obsessive application and clear cut goals I can earn anything from a little to a lot everytime I write 150 words. Soon all my housing costs will be covered - this will be amazing for me and free up so much time spent worrying. From there it will be on to earn a university fund for my daughter, then a good holiday every year...

It is very liberating to own your own future
That is one of my biggest attractions to writing articles: owning my own destiny. When my son starts preschool next year at age 4 1/2, I don't plan on going back into the workforce and putting my life in the hands of those who see me as a cog in the machine. By investing in myself and my writing now, my experience will pay dividends in 2009 and I can far exceed my potential joe-job income. Plus, I'll have the flexibility to write as often and whenever I want to meet my goals.

Ideally Parents Should
put their children through college but, more importantly, they should help to develop responsible, caring individuals with the social skills all similar people appreciate. Easier said than done. We can but try. What's the point otherwise?
This discussion is a digression however - the article sought to discover how many of us would like nothing better than to "sit on our bums and write all day" - can we get back to that please?
