A storm hits the the web, its generate a shock wave that hits every corner of the web, braces for impact folks coz this is big. Yahoo and Time Warner closing in on AOL deal. The two companies strike a deal on AOL. The Time Warner internet division (AOL) is about to swallow by Yahoo! the Yahoo-AOL merger deal is imminent. Negotiations are underway; the two companies will combine their internet operations. The question is why AOL? If Yahoo eats AOL, Yahoo will gain control of AOL; Yahoo would run the biggest web portal around. If the merger goes through, Yahoo will have the size to compete with Google or Microsoft in the online ads business. The Yahoo- AOL marriage got huge potentials because they got size and its means greater efficiency and more ad spacers to offer advertisers. I think that what Yahoo trying to do here is increase scale and increase capacity to get a better chance for growth and success. What about Google? The search king got no problem about AOL, its just fine! Google reportedly got 5% stake in AOL. Google would love this deal. Jerry Yang would do anything just to thwart the Microsoft attack. Maybe this is part of Yahoo’s strategy to fend off Microsoft attack. What exactly Yahoo buying here? Technology? In the past few years AOL business has been declining. AOL is a dinosaur, a wounded beast. In the brutal world of technology only the strong survive, the weak are killed, the wounded are eaten. AOL could be eaten by Yahoo anytime, and we will going to see it. What will AOL do to Yahoo? Both Yahoo and AOL got good web traffics by combining with AOL, Yahoo could extends its search advertising business and is got more audiences, more users mean chances to click the online ads. Well the deal won’t make leverage against Google (as of now still lead the internet pack) but it could end Microsoft bid. But the Redmond’s beast won’t stop hunting its prey they just came back with vengeance and guess what? They got company. Microsoft is in talks with News Corps., in a joint efforts to bid for Yahoo. Microsoft so smart, doing some creative works here. A strategic more intended to get Yahoo at all costs. Microsoft is really in hot pursuit of its target. Microsoft got no choice but to bid for Yahoo it’s the only way Microsoft got to compete head to head with Google. Microsoft is in desperate need of Yahoo’s massive user base. For AOL teams its sell out time, I don’t bite this deal; I would rather take Microsoft bait, or just take a partnership with Google. My point here is Microsoft or Google is good enough or better than AOL. Google can’t bid for Yahoo because of antitrust concerns, a deal will face tough resistance from regulators, But its doesn’t mean that Google could do nothing here! It could team up with News Corps., Nokia or Verizon, a partnership to acquire Yahoo. This sounds trouble for Microsoft; still I got no idea why Jerry Yang won’t sell Yahoo! to Microsoft. Both Microsoft and Yahoo! are playing a cat and mouse game here. Microsoft must move fast here. I think it’s about time for Google to step in and do something about this before it’s too late.
